This section is devoted to our former campers and staff members who would like to drop us a line and let everyone know where they are and what they're up to. If you're a former Pripsteiner, drop us an email at ronnie@pripsteinscamp.com with the scoop and any current pictures of yourself along with any pix from your camp days if possible.

Gill Afrin:

Former camper and Group Leader Gill Afrin is studying for a Master's degree in science at Edinburgh and is working hard at school and making some great new friends. Gill writes that New Year's Eve was a blast with a great street party, live bands, and lots of tipsy Scotsmen! Gill bumped into former staff member Avi Frey who was doing an exchange program in Scotland. Gill would love to hear from her campers and fellow staff members at gillianafrin@hotmail.com.

Jason Appel:

It was nice to hear from one of our many former British staff members, Jason Appel, who was with us during the summer of 1996. Jason is now a trainee accountant at Berg Kaprow Lewis in London. Plans are underway for his wedding to Kim Uzan next summer. He sends out special regards to all his camp friends like Jon "Moose" Blum, Jason Kisber, Tiffany Werbin and Tracy Satov, and would love to hear from everyone at jason.appel@bergkaprowlewis.com.

Sharon Friefeld:

I was a camper and counsellor at Pripstein's a few years back (to say the least!). I live in Toronto with my husband John and children Lauren and Matthew. My children are "day-campers" but I may be able to convince them to try Mishmar, if not, am I too old? I have the fondest memories of summers at Pripstein's; Farfel, Macabeah, Neri and friends, Mr. Pripstein's back floats, Saide and her bedtime cookies, Mary's hamburgers and an eventful tug-of-war. Hopefully we'll visit the camp soon. Regards to all.

Megan Giffin-Scheffers:

Megan was one of our favourite kayak instructors during the mid 1990's. She got married on September 20th, 2003 and is expecting her first child around November 12. After working awhile in the Netherlands for American company Robert Half Finance, she is now back in Halifax working in Sales and Marketing for CKT Nova Scotia. She still has withdrawal syndrome thinking of campers walking the bridge to summer, and would love to hear from any of her camp friends. She can be reached at MeganGiffin@hotmail.com.

In the wedding picture at left, Robyn (far right) is surrounded by former Pripsteiners Stacey Shapira (left) & Pam Beigel (centre)…Thanks to Pam, who worked at camp in 1993-94-95 for emailing us the wedding photo.

Phil Marcovici:

After graduating from law school in Ottawa, I moved to the U.S. where I obtained a Master's degree at Harvard Law School. I then joined a law firm in New York where I spent one year before joining Baker & McKenzie in Hong Kong. I thought that I would spend a year or two in Hong Kong, but ended up living there from 1982 until 1994, when I relocated to the firm's offices in Zurich, where I am living at the moment.

Baker & McKenzie is the world's largest law firm, with more than 60 offices in 35 countries. I have been a partner since 1988, and from time to time have had roles that include having been on the management committee of our Hong Kong office, chair of our European Tax Practice and a member of our Global Tax Practice steering group. I also do quite a bit of teaching, and have lectured at the University of Hong Kong, the University of Geneva and the University of Zurich. I am also an advisor and lecturer for an MBA program that the Swiss Banking School runs in conjunction with the Universities of Geneva, St. Gallen and Carnegie Mellon, among others.

More recently, I have taken on the leadership of Law In Context Pty. Ltd., the interactive knowledge and training subsidiary of Baker & McKenzie.

On the personal front (which is much more fun) I married Peggy Liu, who I met in Hong Kong on a blind date organized by a friend of mine from Montreal, Bernard Pouliot, in 1987. We have two children running our household, Joshua and Luca. We live in Zurich and spend our summers in Italy, on a lake of course, where we have a holiday house. Keeping the head of waterfront role alive, we spend alot of time on the lake, and our boat sank, with the whole family on board (including my non-swimming 81 year old father-in-law), last summer. Given my great Pripstein's safety training, all of us were rescued and are alive and well.

Given the destructive nature of our children, Joshua and Luca, we are thinking of sending them to camp.

David "Cheeks" Marcovitch:

Our longtime former camper, counsellor and head counsellor is living in Toronto with his wife of two years, Stephanie. Cheeks is a Sales Analyst for Clover Leaf Seafoods, and would love to hear from all his camp friends, so drop him a line at marcovitchdavid@hotmail.com.

Sarah Mlynowski:

Sarah Mlynowski spent ten summers at Pripstein’s as camper, counsellor and junior section head. After graduating university, she moved from Montreal to Toronto where she began her career as a writer. Her first novel, Milkrun, has just been published, and is a humourous look at the dating game. Sarah recently had a book launching at the Paragraphe bookstore in downtown Montreal, and plans are in the works for another launching at one of Toronto’s Indigo stores. Former Head Counsellor Jeremy Cammy is actually making the arrangements for that one! Write her at Sarah_Mlynowski@hotmail.com.

Micol Small:

Former waterfront head and head counsellor Micol Small is working for a federal judge in Honolulu, Hawaii and enjoying the sunny, relaxed life. She misses all her camp friends though, and would love to hear from everyone at mss243@nyu.edu.

Ezra Soiferman:

Former camper (1985), CIT (1988) and camp video producer (1996) Ezra Soiferman is a TV documentary producer and director in Montreal. A recent documentary, MAN OF GREASE, aired on TVO, CFCF and Air Canada. The film, which was nominated for a Jutra Award for Best Documentary, is a profile of Montreal greasy-spoon Cosmos and its chef Tony Koulakis. While making this doc, Ezra followed Tony to Crete for his first trip back in 30 years. Other films of Ezra's have appeared on CBC Newsworld, Radio-Canada, The Life Network and the Burly Bear Network in the USA, amongst others. Ezra can be reached at ezra@pressuredrop.com. He sends a big hello to all his fellow former campers and staff.

Tiff Werbin:

Tiff will be graduated from Boston med school and went for a residency in obstetrics and gynecology. The former head counsellor is hoping to one day make a return to Pripstein's as the camp doctor, so stay tuned for that! Tiff sends all her camp friends her love, and thinks about Mishmar every summer while she is working hard in the hospital. She would love to hear from everyone at tiffwerbin@yahoo.com.
